This review elucidated detailly the importance of the animal genetic re-sources conservaation at persent nd the research progress of two strategies commonlyused in the conservation of genetic resources. Aiming at the ifferent methods of geneticresource conservation the author proposed a theoretical consideration for the determina-tion of the smallest population size in genetic resource conservation.
