Lord of the Flies explores the innate evil in man beneath the cover of civilization and the central theme of the novel is convincingly worked out through the naturalistic narration.The war experience set the main tone of Golding's works and his view on man and his nature. The war experience made him realize that not only the defects of the society but also the defects of human nature caused the human tragedy. The terrible destruction of the Second World War was not caused by a few warmakers, but by the evil darkness in human nature. He insisted that human beings constantly destroyed their opportunities to make a better world, not by conscious purpose, but by the bad qualities in their nature.
