On the Aesthetic Significance of Vico's New Science

维柯《新科学》在西方思想史上占据着特殊地位,它为多个学科开辟了道路。就美学较适宜的界定"感性学"而言,《新科学》的美学意义体现于五个方面:第一,辟开"诗性文化"世界;第二,在包括感性在内的人性研究上,得出不少重要的发现或假说;第三,在诗学上,特别是在语言的发生研究与史诗的个案研究领域实现了突破;第四,艺术哲学上,揭示出艺术的社会功能和艺术发展史中的人类需求规律;第五,审美学上,维柯停留于古希腊哲学或经院哲学的美之观念层面。

Vico's New Science holds a special status in the western history of thinking, which find approaches to several disciplines. As far as Asthetik, a fairly suitable definition Aesthetics, is concerned, the aesthetic significance of New Science embodies in five aspects: (i)it opens up the world of'Poetic Culture';(ii)it makes some important discoveries or hypotheses in the study of human nature (including perception …) (iii) it advances greatly in poetry, especially in the study of the origin of a language and of an epic case; (iv) in the philosophy of arts, it uncovers the social function of arts and a law of human requirement through the history of arts, uncovers the social function of arts and a law of human requirement through the history of arts; (v) in the subject of aesthetic ideas, Vico stays on the level as the Greek philosophy or the Christian philosophy in the Middle Ages did.
