Differentiation and Analysis of Leonardo's Way of Observation With Reference to Gombrich's Questioning of Leonardo's On Painting

英国著名艺术史家贡布里希在他的论文《莱奥纳多论绘画科学》中对莱奥纳多·达·芬奇的《绘画论》进行了分析,认为莱奥纳多并不像数百年来多数学者认为的那样有着"惊人的观察力"。其实,贡布里希在文中举例证明莱奥纳多在绘画方面的一些观点是不切实际的,莱奥纳多对自然的观察力是不可否认的。

In his treatise 'Leonardo on the Science of Painting, 'Gombrich, a renowned British art historian, undertakes a profound and detailed analysis of Leonardo's 'On Painting' , pointing out that Leonardo does not, like what most scholars have been claiming over the centuries, possess an outstanding ability of observation. In his treatise Gombrich exemplifies in his unique analytical approach that some of Leonardo's views and ideas are really impractical. Encouraged by the spirit of the master, and based on studies of Leonardo's original works and author's own painting experience over the years, this paper holds that Leonardo's ability of observing nature is not to be negated.
