A brief review is given of the research status of the giant magnetoresistance effect and giant magnetoimpedance effect of metallic soft magnetic alloy multilayered films. The preparation methods and characterizations methods are narrated. Some models and theory research about interlayer exchange coupling between magnetic layers are presented. Sandwich film and tunneling structure films are emphasized. The development of applications on disk head and etc. are introduced.
