论民族精神的可说与不可说

On Saying and Unsaying of National Spirit

民族精神的话题有可说与不可说之分。一般民族精神是可说的 ,特定民族精神是否可说则不能一概而论。特定民族精神有实然层面的谈法与应然层面的谈法。在实然层面谈论特定民族精神既是不可证的 ,也是不利的。在应然层面谈论特定民族精神则没有以上问题和顾虑 ,既是可说的 ,也是有利的。所以 ,我们最好只在应然层面谈论特定民族精神。

The topic of national spirit can be divided into two kinds: saying and unsaying. Generally speaking, national spirit can be said. It is hard to say whether special national spirit can be said. At a practical level, it is not proved and unfavorable, but there is no problem at a theoretical level. So we have to talk about special national spirit at a theoretical level.
