On the Objectivity of Interpreting the Classics

典籍注释是一历时性转换传意行为 ,须经注释主体理解与解释两个阶段。典籍注释传意具有客观性 ,但受不同因素的影响使传意形成主客统一的特征。典籍文本信息的系统性、潜在性、可转换性、表现形态的多样性 ,语言符号的概括性、抽象性、能指与所指关系的复杂性 。

Interpretation of the classics is an act of diachronic transfer of meaning. It has to go through two stages, namely, the interpreter’s comprehension and his interpretation. Meaning transfer in the course of interpreting the classics is objective, but effects of different factors make it typical of harmony between the subjective and the objective. The objectivity of interpretation of the classics is largely affected by the following factors: the systematicity, potentiality and transferability of the information of the classic to be interpreted; the diversity of categories of expression; the generality and abstractness of language symbols; complexity of the signifier and the signified; the diachronicity of meaning transfer in the course of interpreting the classics and the subjectivity of the interpreter’s understanding and expression.
