Commissioning of a 400 kt/a sulphur-burning sulphuric acid plant is descried in detail. A 72 hour-performance examination showed that, with appropriate process technology, reasonable equipment choice and advanced control system, the main process indexes attained design targets. In period of examination, the plant operated with an overall conversion of 99. 79% , absorption of 99. 997% , acceptable 'tree wastes' levels and low consumption of utility such as water, power and steam.
