Recent development situation of fine chemicals in Japan is narrated briefly as follows: pharmaceutical chemicals have specific position in the industry; agrochemicals largely dependent on development of foodstuff; increasing in water-borne and environmentally-friendly coatings and decreasing in solvent based coatings are the development trends of coatings; in Japan the output and supply volume of catalysts both hit an all time high in 2003.
