Simplicity of poems is quite common in Song Dynasty. The simplicity is in fact a kind of profound beauty which transcends the mere superficial simplicity of the poetic expression. The mental conditions of Song intellectuals under the great influence of Chinese Buddhism, especially Zen is the direct cause of the simplic ity. This article explores the integration of simplicity of the poetic expressio n and profound beauty (the thoughts of Chinese Buddhism and people's attitudes t owards their lives) in the poetry of Song Dynasty.
