当支持循证医学的观点被认为完全无懈可击时,也就意味着在倡导者和反对者并存的情况下,将循证医学运用于临床实践有了更加规范的途径.Saarni和Gylling视循证医学为"一种提高质量的科学工具,尽管在其运用过程中需要将科学事实和价值判断、不同疗法的成本相结合".Straus等指出,在评价严格进行的临床研究时,不同的价值观会产生弊病.
