Translation: Art or Science?

根据辩证法的原理,矛盾的双方既有统一性又有斗争性,矛盾的主要方面决定事物的性质。因此,在现阶段,翻译实践是艺术,不是科学,也不是艺术性与科学性的统一。翻译学是艺术论,不是科学论,也不是艺术论与科学论的统一。

According to the principle of dialectics, the two aspects of a contradiction are both unified andmilitant, and the principal aspect of a contradiction determines the nature of the thing concerned. Hence, atthe present stage, translating is an art, and not a science, nor a unity of the theories of art and science. Andtranslatology is a theory of art, and not a theory of science, nor a unity of the theories of art and science.
