My Opinion on the English Translation of Numerals in Chinese Set Phra ses and Idioms

含有数词的成语在汉语成语中占有举足轻重的地位。在翻译这些数词时需要区分数词的实指与虚指以及相应的文化内涵 ,这样才能比较完整地传达汉语成语的意义。

Set phrases containing numerals play a decisive role in the Chinese set phrases. In the translation of them into English, considerat ion should be taken on the notional and imaginary senses of the numerals and the corresponding cultural connotation as well. The meaning of them wouldn't otherw ise be completely expressed. The appropriate translation of numerals is conduciv e to convey the meaning and cultural connotation of Chinese set phrases and idio ms.
