The present paper is a book review of Prof. Liu Qingzhu's work Archaeological Studies of Capitals and Imperial Mausoleums in Ancient China. It divides the treatises of the book into four items: studies of the Qin and Han capitals (Xianyang and Chang'an) ; studies of the Qin and Han institution of mausoleum precinct building; studies of tile-ends in the Warring States and Qin-Han periods; and studies of Han bone labels. The latter two are essentially studies of representative objects from capitals and imperial mausoleums. Furthermore, the author analyses Liu's thought of learning, pointing out that he pays great attention to the study of historical problems by using archaeological sources, to giving full play to the distinctive features and advantages of archaeology of historic times, and to the study of theoretical problems in the discipline. In addition, the author states briefly the history of the study of ancient Chinese capitals and the relationship of archaeology with history.
