有明一代，书家辈出，灿若群星，出现了一些书艺高超、学养深厚、书风垂及后世的里程碑式的人物，祝允明即是这样一位成就卓著的大家。他专精书艺，各体俱传，尤以草书自成一格，是明代书法艺术史上的代表性人物之·。祝氏一生创作勤奋，成名又早，书法在当时即受世人赞赏，又因明朝迄今不远，保存、流传下来的祝氏书迹数量相对较多。但书画自古便有作伪造假，祝氏书迹同样难免鱼龙混杂、真赝莫辨。

Zhu Yunming was a typical wit. His literary talent was brilliant and his calligraphy has a remarkably elegant demeanor.His biggrass characters, calligraphy executed with strokes flowing together, are vigorous and grand, coarse and unconstrained. His regularscript in small characters is elegant, pure and mild,simple and vigorous. Comparatively, his small grass characters do not have suchdistinct features. The present Volume of Small Grass Characters does not intend to appear unruly.At the same time, it will not berestrained in the traditionally neat feature of small grass characters. In fact, its pause and transition are in graceful melody. This is thevery strong point of Zhu yunming. He was not perplexed by customs and personal styles.His perfect grasp of the stylistic features ofthe small grass characters illustrates what a great master he was in this field.
