EPON是一种新出现的光接入网技术 ,它是基于以太网的无源光网络 ,被认为是下一代接入网的最佳选择。它以光纤作为传输介质 ,主要传送以太网的数据帧 ,它采用无源分光器实现点到多点的连接。由于EPON全部采用无源器件因此其维护简单 ,成本降低。在本文中重点介绍了接入网的发展 ,EPON的体系结构。

EPON is a new PON technology for broadband access network that combines passive optical network with Ethernet, it is regarded as the best candidate of the next -generation optical access network. It uses fiber as the transport medium, is designed to carry Ethernet frames. Passive optical splitter fans out to multiple optical drop fibers connected to subscriber nodes.The EPON's maintenance is very simple and EPON have low cost because of passive equipment. This paper introduce the development of the access network, the structure ,the principles and the key technologies of EPON.
