Since 1960,the development of postgraduate continuing education has become the popularity and ten- dency all over the world,and it has been accepted by so many developed countries up now.So,this paper,starting with the basic situations and characteristics of postgraduate continuing education in china,discussed and analyzed that institution of higher education must undertake the duty of development of postgraduate continuing education,and make enormous efforts to develop the postgraduate continuing education by using the resource of modern distance ed- ucation adequately.
