敦化位于吉林省东部长白山腹地,延边朝鲜族自治区西部,与黑吉两省四个地区,周边九个县市接壤,面积11957平方公里,人口48万人,是吉林省区划面积最大的县级市.敦化是森林城市,森林覆盖率69%,拥有丰富的森林资源,是天然的森林氧吧.山、水、林、雪特色突出,钟灵毓秀,自然天成,被誉为"长白山生态立体宝库".敦化是牡丹江的发源地,拥有一江十七河,湖光山色,一派北国风光,先后被国家评为全国卫生城市和吉林省唯一的生态园林城市.为了让海内外读者了解敦化,9月中旬,本刊"绿色中国在行动"采访组来到这美丽的沿边城市采访了中共敦化市委书记冯君.
Dunhua City is located in the middle of Changbai Mountainarea, east of Jilin Province and west of Yanbian Korean AutonomousPrefecture, bounding on 4 regions and 9 cities and counties ofHeilongjiang and Jilin Provinces. The city covers an 11,957 squarekilometers area with a population of 480,000, becoming the largestcounty-level city in Jilin. Dunhua is a forest city and 69% of the areais covered by forests. Possessing abundant forest resources, Dunhualooks like a natural forest oxygen bar. The beautiful mountain, river,forest and snow gain the title of“Three-Dimension Thesaurus ofChangbai Mountain Ecosystem” for Dunhua. As the source of PeonyRiver, Dunhua owns one big river and 17 smaller ones. With a typicalnorthern scene, this place has successively been chosen as thenational sanitary city and the single ecology garden-like city of JilinProvince.
