A Comparative Study of How Japanese and Chinese Married Couples Address Each Other

中日两国夫妻间的称呼内容丰富,形式多样,存在着很大的差异。本文运用社会语言学原理和方法研究现代汉日夫妻间称呼的异同及形成差异的社会和历史因素。另外,汉日夫妻间称呼的差异反映了两国夫妻社会地位的不同。

Applying the principles and approaches of social linguistics to a contrastive examination of the terms with which a married couple typically address each other in Japan and in China, the author identifies the similarities and the differences between the two sets, and goes on to uncover the socio-historical factors accounting for their formation. He concludes that different social statuses enjoyed respectively by the husband and the wife in each cultural milieu have much to do with the way the Japanese couple and the Chinese couple vary in addressing each other.
