Shen Congwen was just qualified as a pupil when he went to Beijing alone.Relying on a country man's stubbornness,he created a myth and a romance in the literary world.He kept his own independent character all his life.He tried to stand aloof from politics,but he always wanded to say something about it and then hesitated.He paid close attention to the reality,and at the same time he longed for the glorious ideals.He wanted to keep away from worldly affairs,but he couldn't refrain from concerning himself with them.
