We have applied the latest process and technology on seven continuous digesters to produce hardwood pulp. It has been proved in different mills that with the COMPACT COOKINGTM one can get high cooking yield and uniform cooking with low kappa deviations and low reject content, high pulp viscosity and good bleachability. The paper provides a discussion on the possibility of bleaching with few stages. 'Hot' chlorine dioxide bleaching has made the bleaching with few stages possible, with full brightness and low brightness reversion. The experiences of COMPACT PRESSTMin bleaching plants are also presented.
