The Realm of the Tao──the Ultimate Aesthetic Pursuit of Taoists

“道”是融宇宙观、自然观、人生观为一体的高度抽象化的形而上概念。道家以“值”为本，把审美落实在自然之道上；从自然无为的合规律性和合目的性理解美的内涵；从主体的精神自由来理解审美的价值、功能；以回归自然为人生追求；以精神自由为人格美理想；以逆境为最高的审美境界和终极追求。

The Tao is an abstract metaphysical concept, which includes the outlook of the original Taoist philosophers on the cosmos, nature and human life. They view the Tao as ori gin of the world, putting the aesthetic on the Tao of nature, understanding the meaning of beauty by the law and puopse of nature, comprehending aesthetic value and function by the freedom of spirit of a subject, taking returning to nature as the pursuit of life and freedom of spirit as ideal of human character. The realm of the Tao is the summit of aesthetic state and the ultimate aesthetic pursuit of Taoists.
