汤寿潜“晚以铁路见贤”评析

On Tang Shouqian's Great Contributions to Railway Management in His Late Years

汤寿潜既顺应时代潮流力促商办浙江铁路公司之诞生,又不负众望勇挑总理浙路之重担,同时他不仅与出卖路权的清政府进行了针锋相对的斗争,而且以卓越的奉献精神和顽强的实干精神,领导了浙路商办实践,致使浙路商办成效为晚清所有商办铁路之冠,汤寿潜无愧于"晚以铁路见贤"之称誉。

Keeping pace with the times, Tang Shouqian contributed vigorously to the birth of the private Zhejiang Railway Company, and shouldered the responsibility of its first General Manager. He not only struggled against the Qing Government which traded out the railway sovereignty to other countries, but also, with his dedicating and down-to-earth spirit, practiced the successful management of commercial railways in Zhejiang, so that the commercialization of railway management in Zhejiang became the most fruitful in China in late Qing period. Tang deserves his reputation as a prominent figure in railway management in his late years.
