The paper describes the construction of underground diaphragm retaining walls,which had to be executed in backfilled sand and stones,and had to cut through the rubble mound foundation for the caissons adjacent to the diaphragm walls. The difficulties and key tasks of construction of the diaphragm retaining walls lie in the trenching operations for the walls. To overcome these difficulties,some effective measures were taken.
