On 8th November, the Global Summit '3G in China' began before stares from many eyes. The conference hall accommodating 1,000 people on the sec-ond floor at Kempinski Hotel in Beijing were crowded. The results from the second phase 3G tests would be announced at the summit and attracted attention from the telecom industry players all over the world. For the regulator had said 'when 3G licenses began awarding would depend on the results from the second phase tests' after the end of the first phase tests (June 2001 to August 2003). So the 3G technology reviewing report might be a catalyst for 3G to land on China.'The biggest news in the telecom industry this year was nothing new,' said many analysts. However, such commentsseem to be wrong at the end of the year. Granting 3G licenses has been postponed once and again in recent years. The enthusiasm for 3G has diminished after crying 'the wolf is coming' many times, but the perfect result from the tests, plus the super '3G Show' at the Beijing Telecom Exhibition at the end of October, seem to be exiting doses bringing optimism for 3G to the industry again.The high-profile announcement of the test results convinces more and more people that 3G licenses would be granted before the end of next year.
