This paper is of the realm of comparative literature, which involves the study of texts across cultures. Comparatire literature is interdisciplinary one and it is concerned with patterns of connection in literatures across both time and space. Love is God, which is the universal emotion that humanity possesses. Therefore, it is no wonder that the expressions of love are similar. This paper compares 'The Pledge', a Yue Fu poem in the Han Dynasty which can be considered as an oriental love classic, with 'A Red Red Rose' written by the British poet Robert Burns which is regarded as an occidental love classic and analyzes the two classic love poems which were composed in different countries and various eras but can be regarded as companion pieces.
