The Main Theme, Motif and Substance: On the Political and Ideological Education of College Students.

加强和改进大学生思想政治教育是高等教育落实科学发展观的重要内容,事关党和国家工作的全局。充分认识加强和改进大学生思想政治教育的重要性和紧迫性,是贯穿大学生思想政治教育全过程的主题。对大学生思想政治教育的基本任务和主要内容,既要全面把握、融会贯通,又要强化重点、突出主线。加强爱国主义教育,提升理想信念教育,落实文明修养教育,是经常性大学生思想政治教育的主线。大学生思想政治教育是一个系统工程,理论武装、舆论引导、精神塑造和作品鼓舞是主要渠道。在宏观把握上要统筹社会教育、家庭教育和学校教育;在学校教育中要统筹基础教育、中等教育和高等教育;在日常教育中要统筹课堂教育、校园文化活动和社会实践;在课堂教育中要统筹专业教育、人文教育和"两课"教育。

To better and strengthen political and ideological education of college students is one of the aspects of nation-wide importance in the implementation of the view of scientific development in institutions of higher learning. And to thoroughly understand its importance and urgency is the main theme running through its whole process. Its main tasks must be carried out in an all-round way and with its substance at the fore. Consequently the instruction of patriotism, the enhancement of ideals and beliefs, and the implementation of ones cultivation are to be highlighted. More, as the political and ideological education of college students is a systematic project, its main substance is to be a combination of instruction of theory, of public viewpoints, of spiritual modeling, and the inspiration with literary works. Broadly speaking, social, family and school education are to be integrated into one; within schools, fundamental, intermediate education and that of institutions of higher learning, into one; as to routine education, classroom instruction, campus activities and social practices, into one; and in classroom, major subjects, humanities knowledge and the 'two political subjects'subjects, into one.
