实践证明,现代汉语译诗中的顿数同其英语原作中的音步数非常接近,甚至译诗诗行的字数与原作诗行的音节数也往往有着某种比例关系。因此,在英诗汉译中,译文有可能既做到在内容上忠实于原作,又比较明确地反映出原作的格律形式。

In poetry translation, it can be shown, through concrete examples, that the number of ' pauses' in a translation done in modern Chinese is very close to the number of feet in its English original. It can even be established that a certain proportion can be worked out between the number of Chinese characters in a line and the number of English syllables in the original. Therefore, it is possible for the Chinese version not only to be true to the original in content, but also to reflect closely the metrical pattern and rhyming scheme of the original.
