How to Translate the Chinese Term"意境"(yijing)

“意境”是我国传统美学中的核心概念,在翻译理论中也十分重要。本文对意境的内涵及其译法进行了一些初步的探索,提出以新造词ideorealm作为其核心译法,同时认为应结合具体语境灵活处理其变义。

意境'(yijing) is not only the kernel of the traditional aesthetics of our country but also of great importance in translation theory. After a tentative exploration of the connotations of the concept and the different ways of translating it, the author proposes the newly-coined word 'ideorealm' as the core version, stressing at the same time that the different uses to which the Chinese term is put should be dealt with flexibly, i.e. on the basis of concrete linguistic contexts.
