During the Irish Renaissance, Anglo-Irish writers dug into the ancient Celtic literature to build up the noble national image so as to restore the self-esteem of the besmirched Irish people. However, their efforts inevitably encountered opposition from both English colonist culture and Celtic native culture. Being attacked from both sides, Anglo-Irish writers gradually formed their unique cultural identity. They not only contributed greatly to the revival and development of Irish national literature, but also to the cultural foundation for the nations integration.
