Jane Mander, one of the most important writers in New Zealand, is famous for her vivid depiction of the colonial country of her times. This thesis is intended to explore her artistic features by comparing and contrasting various aspects of two of her most significant novels, namely The Story of a New Zealand River and Allen Adair, including background knowledge, contents, themes, and writing techniques.
