A Contrastive Study of English and Chinese Culturally-loaded Plant Words

文化制约植物词的意义演变 ,意义反映丰富的文化。英汉文化有差异 ,文化植物词在许多方面不一样 :总数、多义词数量、各类植物中文化词数量、意义类型与演变方式、词的结构形式和派生构词力等。结合范例对部分英汉文化植物词进行对比分析 ,可以认识到文化对词义演变的制约以及词汇所载蓄的丰富文化。

Culture restricts the change of meaning in plant words, and the change of meaning thereof in turn reflects the richness of culture. Due to the disparities between the English and Chinese cultures, their culturally-loaded plant words differ considerably in various aspects: the total number, the number of polysemous words, the proportion of culturally-loaded words, meaning types and the modes of meaning change, word formation, etc. A contrastive study between English and Chinese in this field will highlight the effects of culture on change of meaning and also the richness of cultural meaning reflected in the vocabulary of both languages.
