20 0 0年商务印书馆版《新时代汉英大词典》收词欠广泛 ,有的条目不给译名而只是译出定义。此外 ,该词典还存在种种舛误。其中最典型的莫过于沿袭自 1978年商务印书馆版《汉英词典》以来各种汉英词典皆犯的错误 ,即把“黑人”一词译为首字母大写的“Black(s)”。汉英词典译名错误陈陈相因的问题该是彻底解决的时候了。

In addition to the problems of limited and unbalanced coverage and sometimes giving definitions in place of exact equivalents, The New Age Chinese-English Dictionary (2000 Edition,The Commercial Press) is found to contain various errors. A typical one is the translation of'黑人'as'Black(s)',a mistaken rendering that originated with A Chinese-English Dictionary (1978 Edition, The Commercial Press) and has been duplicated up to now in all kinds of Chinese-English dictionaries. It is time now to redress the problem seriously.
