Two Issues Concerning the Study of History of the Qin Dynasty

这是两篇秦史研究札记:一为秦代士兵能否邮寄钱物问题,一为秦代民众债务负担问题。研究表明:秦代士兵不可能从家中邮寄钱物,因而秦代士兵不可能自备衣物。秦代民众负担沉重,不仅来自兵役、劳役,还有因苛捐杂税和法网繁密导致的可怕债务。

These are two research reading notes on the history of Qin Dynasty:One is the problem of whether soldiers in Qin Dynasty can send money and things;the other is the problem of the debt burden of the masses in Qin Dynasty.Research shows it was impossible for soldiers in Qin Dynasty to be self-provided with clothing as it was impossible for them to have money and things sent from home.The masses of Qin Dynasty had a heavy burden, which did not only come from military service, labor service, but also from dreadful debts that had been incurred on them through multifarious taxes and densely woven web of justice.
