小说对主要人物的塑造,暗合了两性同体是完美人格的体现这一意识。其中富有魅力的女性人物,都融入了男性气质的因素;而令人喜爱的男性人物同时也富有女性的一些优秀素质。在作者看来,有魅力的女子应有一些男子一般的气质与才识,而可敬的男子也应具备一些女性的资质与品性。

The characterization of the main figures in the novel coincides with the awareness of androgyny which reflects a perfect personality. The charm female figures all mix with the factors of the male qualities; likewise, the loving male figures also possess some fine female qualities. In the author's opinion, a charm woman should own certain makings and talent as a man. And the respectable man should possess a little intelligence and fine qualities as well.
