Hong Ke' s novels are composed of a string of imagoes. In all of the imagoes, 'horse'appeared in a highest frequency and has the richest connotation.'Horse' is the horseman' s medal of honor and external ization of vigor. The untamed nature's mustang——KU Lan is the symbol of primitive survivability. It is dragon's emissary who can shutter between death and life and can communicate the 'past',the 'present'and the 'future'in the process of 'rebirth'and 'attach to living'. The author projected his thoughts and feelings of life upon the 'horse'.
