论风格的可译性

Whether style is translatable or not

风格的可译性是一个不朽的话题,其原因有二。第一、风格的分析与传译是译者在文学作品的翻译过程中必然会面对的问题;第二、风格的可译性是一个长期争论、却无定论的话题。本文认为相关争论主要源于在"可译性"与"可译度"这两个概念上产生的混淆,并据此首先从宏观上确定了风格的可译性,事实上这也是之所以进行翻译活动的意义之一。其次,论文承认可译性只是一个相对的概念,从而明确了译者的任务是在实践中提高可译性的幅度。

'Whether style is translatable or not' is an everlasting topic for discussion, the reason for which includes the following two aspects. Firstly, the analysis and transfer of style is indispensable to the translating of literary works. Secondly, although disputed often, this problem is always there to be settled. Realizing that the disputations have mainly resulted from the confusion between 'translatability' and the 'degree of translatability', this paper has, first all, acknowledged the translatability of literary style. At the same time, it takes into consideration the degree of translatability and points out that this 'degree' could be enhanced by the translators in the process of literary translation.
