本篇论文是《论诗的音乐美》(1990年)之后的又一篇关于汉英诗歌比较研究的论文,试图从汉英诗歌的结构方面进行比较,探索诗歌结构的美学特征。论文提出句法单位、组合和序列的概念,指出汉语词组在汉语诗行中的语法功能性分布。论文亦描述了英语诗歌的平行、对称和非对称结构,汉语诗歌的对仗和排比结构。论文对汉语诗歌进行平仄模式、节奏模式、词类、语法功能、语义的5个层次的分析。论文描述了英汉诗歌中的词语重复的模式。对诗歌做句法、修辞、主题层次的分析。论文以具体的诗歌的翻译为例,讲述了如何把握诗歌翻译的文字运用技巧。

The present paper is a continuation of s the discussion of contrastive study of Chinese and English poetics, following the publication of the thesis 'On the Musical Beauty of Poetry' (1990). It tries to explore the aesthetic features of the structural aspects of Chinese and English poetry. It puts forth such concepts as syntactic unit, combination of syntactic units, and series of such combinations. It describes the grammatico-functional distribution of Chinese phrases in poetic lines. It discusses parallelism, symmetry and asymmetry of English poems, contrastive couplets and parallel lines of Chinese poems. It analyses Chinese poems on five dimensions: even-deflected patterns, rhythmic patterns, parts of speech, grammatical function, and semantics. It sums up patterns of poetic repetition of Chinese and English poetry. It finally approaches the analysis of poetry on syntactic, rhetoric and thematic dimensions. The paper gives many illustrations telling readers about how to master the technique of poetic translation.
