摘要
在《美国人》中 ,为了强调欧洲和美国两种价值体系的不相容性 ,詹姆斯特别借助了哥特式小说特有的艺术表现手法。聚焦于该文本的哥特文体特征 ,尝试分析这些哥特成分在小说的整体情节设计中如何造成“陌生化”的效果 ,从而有效地起到强化作品“隔绝”主题的作用。
In The American, Henry James's skillful use of Gothic conventions serves to highlight the incompatibility between European and American value systems. This paper will offer a focused discussion of the Gothic elements in the novel and tentatively analyse how an effect of defamiliarization is created to reinforce the motif of isolation.
