A fast and secure handoff scheme for wireless LAN was proposed. In this scheme, APs adjacent to the AP that is associated with the wireless client are pre-authenticated by the RADIUS authentication server, hence to reduce the time consumption of re-authentication between those APs and the wireless client. In addition, synchronous rekeying of pairwise master key and roaming key can secure the handoff process. The analysis and simulation show that the proposed scheme is efficient in terms of handoff delay as well as security.
