Theme-rheme is the concern of many language researchers and language learners. This paper presents the explanatory powers of theme-rheme theory to description. 25 descriptive passages are collected on the base of corpus to analyze the feature of the theme and pattern of thematic progression. Based on the corpus analysis, it is apparent that there are some reasons for the choice of those themes and patterns of thematic progression.
