Cultural Development: An Important Task in Building World-class Universities

我们必须从战略的高度来重视世界一流大学建设中的文化发展问题。世界一流的大学的文化功能不应是低层次的文化传承与研究 ,而必须使这些重点建设的高校成为具有世界影响的文化开发、整合、创新与传播中心。要建设具有世界影响的文化中心 ,必须抓住重点、加大投入 ,围绕世界性前沿课题或特色课题来建设一批高水平的研究基地或中心。同时 ,要加强图书资料建设 ,加大文化交流力度 ,营造良好的人文氛围。

Cultural development should be considered as a strategic issue in the process of achieving this goal. To be a world-class university, a university must perform its cultural function at a high level: It must endeavor to be a world-wide famous center of culture development, culture integration, culture innovation and culture communication. Several measures can be taken in order to create such a center: Concentrating on important issues, increasing investment, developing high-class institutes, establishing modern library, encouraging cultural exchange, and creating good academic environment.
