By using content analysis method based on word frequency analysis, this paper analyzes the hot topics and new trends in research development of information science in China and over the world in 2003. From the analysis result we can see: information technology, information retrieval, network & Web, information service and user, data and database, management and evaluation, information system, knowledge management, and so on are the common research focuses of information science in China and over the world in 2003.
