An Approach to Cao Yu's Psychic Break-through: from Zhou Chong to Chou Hu

正如我们对待任何伟大的艺术天才一样 ,对曹禺本人和他的戏剧作品本身所具有深邃无比的审美内蕴很难用一种方法、一条途径去进行诠释。从周冲的生命形式所暗示出曹禺童年梦幻的生命补偿 ;周萍试图摆脱“恶”的挣扎寄寓着曹禺的批判与同情 ;以及仇虎的复仇。

The aesthetic charm of the author and his operas,like any other great literary talents and their works,is profound and there exists no single and simple way of interpreting.The present article is an attempt to reveal(1) Cao's compensation for his childhood dream through the life experience of Zhou Chong,a hero in The storm;(2)his criticism of,and sympathy for Zhou Ping,another hero in the same opera,who was struggling to get free from wickedness,and (3) the tragic significance implied in the revenge,remorse and ruin of Chou Hu,a hero in The Wilderness.One can perceive Cao's hardship experienced in the course of personal psychic break_through.
