There was a hot debate on inheritance and innovation, tradition and modernity in Chinese painting in the 20th century. In fact, both eagerness for quick success and instant benefit and conservation and flinch are enemy of art and Chinese painting. The remarkable achievements of modern Chinese painting just result from these two indispensable factors.
