The relationship between college English teaching models and CET 4/6

摘要 本文以对3所普通高校的大学英语教学模式以及四、六级考试成绩的调查为依据,分析了3所高校在师资力量、生源状况基本相同的情况下不同的教学模式所产生的不同结果。调查发现,以教学大纲为本,坚持素质教育的教学模式不但提高了学生的实际语言能力,而且使学生在四、六级考试中取得了不俗的成绩。而以考试为导向的教学模式不但未能培养学生综合使用外语的能力,而且事与愿违,学生参加四、六级考试的成绩并不理想。据此,本文提出,大学英语教学应以人为本,以学生为本,改变教学理念,摆正四、六级考试与大学英语教学的关系,全面实施素质教育,培养学生综合应用语言的能力。 Based on data collected from three colleges whose teaching staff and student sources are almost at the same level, this paper analyzes the different outcomes resulting from different teaching models adopted by these colleges in college English teaching. It is found that the college that organizes its teaching around exams failed to achieve its desired results while the one that adheres to its quality-based teaching plan and spends little time on preparing the exams helped most of its students pass the exams. The authors propose that we need to change our views and guiding principles on college English teaching, from the exam-oriented to the quality-oriented model in college English teaching. Only in this way can we make a breakthrough in enforcing quality education and developing college students' competence in foreign languages.
