汉英委婉语跨文化比较研究——以“死亡”为例

A comparison of the euphemism for "death" between the Chinese Culture and the English Culture

委婉语是世界各民族语言的一种普遍现象。无论在中国还是在西方,委婉语都始于避讳、禁忌。汉英两种语言在表现形式、文化内涵方面既有相同之处,又有差异,有必要从跨文化角度作一对比分析。

The present paper discusses the origin of the euphemism for death, gives a general picture of the Chinese and English terms by way of comparison between the Chinese culture and the English culture, and reveals the deep cultural connotations contained in this linguistic phenomenon.
