In dealing with the equation, the new century version of textbooks calls attention to that the equations are mathema- tical models of those real world problems containing the relationship of equal quantities, the general algorithm for solutions, approximations, applications, and the connections with functions. The new curriculum also put effort to develop students' sense of symbols.
