On the Explanation of the Later Word Shi(是) of Shishi(是是) Which are Used Together

有学者指出,先秦时期的出土文献中,"是是"连用的后一"是"字不是系词而是副词。文章对此辨析讨论。结论:"是是"连用的后一"是"字可用作系词,但不能一概而论。大致说来,当它用于判断句中,应为系词;当它用于叙述句中,则是副词。

Some scholars think that the later word Shi(是) of Shishi(是是) which are used together, can not be explained as a copulative verb. This paper holds that the later word Shi(是) of Shishi(是是) can be used as a copulative verb, but it can not be treated as the same. In general terms, it is undoubtedly a copulative verb when it is used in judgment sentences, however, it is an adverbial word when used in a narrative sentence.
