This paper introduces the concept of GIS and 3DGIS,analyzes the problems with the present development of 3DGIS, and on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the advantages of COM technology in the development of GIS, presents the idea of 3DGIS design for railway structures, pointing out that COM technology is presently the best choice to develop 3DGIS for industries.
